Make Homemade Dipping Chocolate For Candy Making

When making chocolate-dipped candy, the most important aspect is the dipping chocolate. You can use any type of chocolate you like, but avoid baker's chocolate (it's unsweetened). This is faster and easier to make in a microwave than on top of the stove in a double boiler.

Instructions

1. With the knife, roughly chop the chocolate bark until it's in smaller bits. This will make melting faster. You don't have to do this if you're using chocolate chips.

2. Place the chopped chocolate bark and the vegetable shortening into the microwave-safe bowl.

3. Place the bowl into the microwave and cook on "High" for 3 minutes, stopping every 30 seconds to stir the chocolate and shortening mix.

4. When the chocolate is smooth and completely melted, take each candy you want to dip and drop it into the melted chocolate.

5. Pull the dipped candy out of the chocolate by lifting it up with the tines on the fork. Don't stab at it, just lift the candy.

6. Place the candies on wax paper to cool and for the chocolate to harden.
