Low Carb Thai Food

Low Carb Thai Food

Those on a low carb diet may think they have to give up Thai food. While some Thai food is high in carbs such as curry and rice, there are low carb Thai food choices available. Many of these food items are also high in protein. Low carb dieters don't have to forgo Thai food restaurants if they know what to order.

Satay

Satay is an appetizer that could also serve as a main dish. Beef, chicken or pork is sliced thin and put on a skewer, brushed with satay sauce and grilled. It is traditionally served with peanut sauce and cucumber dip, which should be avoided as they both contain sugar.

Tod Mun Pla

These fish cakes are made from fish paste, kaffir lime leaves, green beans, red curry paste, salt and a tablespoon of sugar. The ingredients are mixed and then fried and flattened. They are very high in protein.

Laab Nuea

Laab Nuea is also known as ground beef salad. The ground beef is mixed with lime juice, fish sauce and galangal powder, then cooked on a stove. Once it is cooked, chopped green onions, cilantro, mint and chili peppers are mixed in. This dish is eaten rolled up in cabbage leaves.

Thai Beef Jerky

Thai style beef jerky is made by marinating small strips of beef in fish sauce, soy sauce, coriander powder and a little sugar. The whole mixture is pan fried and then deep fried to give it a crisp texture.

Thai Stuffed Omelet

The Thai stuffed omelet is an omelet stuffed with a cooked mixture of ground pork minced with shrimp, garlic, fish sauce, Maggi seasoning, white pepper, onions, peas and carrots.
