Make Homemade Jerky

Start with good quality, lean beef brisket.

Instead of buying expensive beef jerky at the store, you can make it on your own at home with better results. You don't even need a costly dryer or dehydrator to get a great batch of jerky every time.

Instructions

1. Slice the brisket into ¼-inch thick slices.

2. Add all of the other ingredients to a large mixing bowl and stir until they are evenly distributed.

3. Lay each piece of meat into the marinade until coated and place them in a flat dish. Pour the remaining marinade over the top. Cover the dish in plastic chill it in the refrigerator overnight.

4. Turn the oven on the lowest setting, about 150 degrees F. Layer baking sheets with alternating layers of paper towels and single layers of the meat. Use a rolling pin to flatten the meat.

5. Place foil over bottom rack of oven to catch any drippings. Place the pans of meat directly on the top rack and allow them to cook slowly and dry out for 8 to 10 hours checking it more often towards the end.

6. Place jerky in a sealed container for storage.
