Make Spaghetti Sauce From Scratch

Bring out a sauce's flavor with a variety of spices.

Homemade spaghetti sauce is not a necessity these days, with so many premade options available at the supermarket. Nonetheless, nothing quite compares to a thick and chunky sauce made by your own two hands. Unlike packaged sauces, a spaghetti sauce made from scratch can be filled with vegetables and the spices of your choosing. Make your own tomato sauce that can be used on spaghetti, other pastas and even pizza dough.

Instructions

1. Chop onion and saute in olive oil in pot. Wash, chop and add peppers, mushrooms, carrot and celery. Crush garlic cloves and add. Cook five to 10 minutes, or until soft and sweet.

2. Add diced tomatoes and tomato paste. Bring to a boil, and then turn down to low or medium-low heat.

3. Add salt, sugar, pepper, chili peppers and oregano to taste. Let sauce simmer.

4. Stir sauce occasionally. Let sauce simmer for at least one hour, or until excess water has boiled away.

5. Allow sauce cool and serve on spaghetti.
