Toast Sugar Almonds

Toast almonds with sugar for a sweet snack.

Toast sugar almonds for a sweet treat. Serve the almonds as an after dinner snack or for a sweet alternative to spiced nuts at a party. You can also use the sugar almonds as a garnish on top of puddings or cakes. When toasting the almonds, keep an eye on the skillet. They can burn quickly if you walk away even for just a minute. You can add more flavor to the almonds by adding a dash of vanilla extract or a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Instructions

1. Place the skillet on the stove and add the butter. Turn the heat on to medium, and let the butter melt.

2. Add the almonds and the sugar to the skillet. Stir to combine.

3. Keep stirring the almonds and sugar as they cook. Cook for about five minutes, until the sugar has melted and turned brown. The almonds should begin to toast and turn brown.

4. Add 1/2 tsp. vanilla or a sprinkling of cinnamon if you would like.

5. Take the skillet off of the stove. Scrape the sugar-coated almonds onto a piece of aluminum foil and let cool. Store in an airtight container until you're ready to eat them.
