Turn boring radishes into floral garnishes.
When you prepare a meal, remember that presentation is just as important as flavor when it comes to the overall culinary experience. Garnishes like radishes carved into flowers are the kinds of little touches that make meals or events extra special. Try using radish roses to decorate the top of a salad, or place clusters of them on serving platters to add a splash of color to your presentation. Radish flowers look complicated, but they are actually fairly simple to create.
Instructions
1. Rinse and scrub the radishes, and pat them dry with a cloth or paper towel. Use a paring knife to trim the root and stem ends off of each radish.
2. Hold the radish in place so that one of the cut ends is on your cutting board. Starting at one side of the radish, make one-quarter inch slices about three-quarters of the way down. Work from one side to the other. Be careful not to cut all the way through the radish.
3. Rotate the radish 90 degrees. Repeat the slicing process, working from one side to the other, to make a crisscross pattern on the radish. Place the radishes in a bowl of ice water and let them soak for about an hour. If you would like to prepare these the day before you need them, you can place the bowl in the fridge overnight.
