Substitute Olive Oil For A Heart Healthy Diet

Maintaining a heart healthy diet is mandatory for the many millions of people who suffer from one form of heart disease or another. There are actually many foods that contain oils that are high in fat and cholesterol that can be really bad for our bodies, namely our hearts. But there are ways to still eat what you like without having to worry about your heart and your health. 1. Identify foods that you can substitute olive oil in. Think of all the foods that you like to eat normally, especially fried foods and foods that you cook yourself. Many of these foods can be cooked with olive oil as opposed to butter or other fatty oils that are bad for your heart. Foods like eggs, pancakes, burgers, veggies, fish, anything fried and a plethora of others.


2. Change your cooking and eating habits. To maintain a heart healthy diet you will need to eradicate all foods that contain too many fatty acids, saturated fats and cholesterol. Instead of eating high-fat burgers, substitute with 95 percent lean meat and fry them using olive oil. Add olive oil to your noodles when boiling instead of salt and butter.


3. Say goodbye to margarines, butters and other oils. Toss away your old cooking oils that are high in fats and sodium. Use olive oil as a substitute in everything that you used to use your other cooking mediums. If you are making cookies, use olive oil instead of butter. Season olive oil lightly with garlic and you can spread it on your bread as opposed to butter. Marinate steaks in lemon juice and garlic with a dash of olive oil, instead of the regular high-sodium marinade that you use.


4. Enjoy a heart healthy, olive oil balanced diet. The more that you think of different foods that can use an olive oil substitute with the faster that you will be on track to a heart healthy diet. Remember that you want to maintain a low-sodium, low-cholesterol diet that uses olive oil as a substitute as often as possible to keep that beating heart healthy.
