Troubleshoot An Amana Dryer

Amana dryers are considered a good value for the price. The front-loading dryers have a large capacity and come equipped with a moisture sensor. The reversible door is also a convenient feature. As with any dryer, though, you may run into problems. Take the time to troubleshoot the issues before calling in a professional.

Instructions

1. Adjust the level legs if your dryer is making any unusual noises. Remember that some vibration is normal. There may also be loose objects, such as coins, banging around inside the dryer. Check for these. It is normal to hear noise caused by air moving through the dryer and the pulsation of the dryer when the drum rotates. In addition, many parts, including the timer, click during operation.

2. Reset the Fabric Selector knob if the dryer is not heating. It may be set to Fluff/No Heat. Check to make sure the damper on the weather hood is not stuck closed or frozen. If there is a restriction in airflow, the dryer will stop heating. If you have a gas dryer, check other gas appliances in the house to make sure that the gas supply is turned on.

3. Fabric dyes that are not set can stain the dryer drum. Make a paste by combining powdered detergent with a little bit of water if your dryer drum becomes stained. Rub the paste on the stain. The stain may not disappear immediately; however, it will fade over time.

4. Dry only one load at a time. Also, make sure to separate heavy items from the lighter ones when drying. Do not forget to clean the lint filter before each dryer cycle. If this still does not solve your problem, check to make sure the washer had enough spin speed to extract most of the water. You may need to put the clothes back in the washer and run them through an additional spin to extract enough water before drying them.

5. Clean the lint filter before each use is you are finding there is lint on your dried clothes. Also, make sure to separate lint-producing items, such as cotton towels, from lint attracting garments, such as those made from synthetic fabrics. Do not forget to remove all items, such as tissues and paper, from pockets of jeans or slacks. Overloading the dryer will also reduce the airflow and not allow lint to collect in the filter.
