Become a licensed aesthetician to learn provide relaxing skin treatments.


An aesthetician is professional who non-medically cares for the skin through various treatments and procedures such as facials, makeup application and waxing. Aestheticians work to keep their client’s skin healthy and beautiful. Aestheticians are tend to be employed mostly by salons or spas and are considered to be part of the health and beauty industry. To become an aesthetician, you must go through school to obtain a state license.


Instructions


1. Determine your focus as an aesthetician. You must ask yourself if your interested more in makeup or working in a medical setting. Schools may offer different courses of study depending on your main interest, though you will be still be required to take a core program on all aesthetics subjects, which can include skin analysis, facial massage, masks and products.


2. Research reputable schools that offer aesthetics licensing programs. You can find them by searching the Internet, looking in a phone book or by calling local salons or spas to get recommendations. If you have the resources, you can book appointments with aestheticians who graduated from schools of your choice to see how you like their services.


3. Call or visit the schools that you are interested in and request tours of the facilities.


4. Select a school based on factors that are important to you. These can include cost, length of program and location.


5. Complete your course of study. This is how you earn the required number of training hours to apply for your aesthetician license. Hours vary between states.


6. Apply for your license through your state department board of cosmetology. The Associated Skin Care Professionals provides a listing of state board information. Your school should be able help you with the application process. Once you have received your license, you will be eligible for employment as an aesthetician.
