Make A Cafe Au Lait

Cafe au lait may be one of the simplest and most delectable forms of coffee ever created. While this perfect cup of coffee is no more than cream and coffee, it is the careful preparation which makes it oh so good. If you are tired of forking over your hard- earned cash for this simple treat, you can brew your own cafe au lait from the comfort of your kitchen.

Instructions

1. Fill the bottom of the moka pot with ice cold, clean water. Make sure that you watch the fill line on the moka pot, or you will end up with a mess on your stovetop. Place the funnel piece of the pot into the bottom.

2. Place your finely ground espresso coffee into the funnel, making sure that your coffee does not spill over the edges. The coffee you choose is your choice, so experiment to find your flavor of choice. Typically, for cafe au lait, the stronger the better.

3. Screw the top onto the moka pot and place it onto a burner to heat. You will know when the coffee is done when the pot is steaming and making a gurgling sound. As your coffee brews, you can begin to prepare the cream for the cafe au lait.

4. Heat the milk on a stovetop or in the microwave, heating it almost to the point of boiling, making sure not to scald the milk. Once it is hot you can use a milk frother wand or a small wisk to create a thick layer of foam on top of the milk. Simply beat the milk as you would for scrambled eggs and quickly the foam will begin to grow.

5. Pour the hot-brewed espresso into a mug followed by some hot milk. Spoon a few dollops of foam on top just before serving.
