Italian Cooking Culture

The Italian cooking culture is loved by many, but fully understood by few. While people enjoy Italian food, they may not understand some of the traditions and cultures surrounding the cuisine.


Individuality


Volpi points out that Italian cuisine tends to vary depending on the region, and will do so drastically. Different towns will have their own types of meats, cheeses, wines and bread. These changes will tweak the specific cuisine culture of the area.


Pasta


While types of pasta are important in most cuisine cultures, pasta is arguably most important in Italian culture. There are a seemingly endless amount of Italian pastas; Orichette, Spaghetti, Farfalle, Penne, and Linguine are all Italian.


Seafood


Seafood is found in many different Italian dishes because of its unique location. Giada Delaurenttis points out that since the Mediterranean Sea surrounds the coast of Italy, seafood is an important part of the cooking culture.


Multiple Influences


The Italian cooking culture is heavily influenced by the cultures that were once a part of the Italian area. Etruscans and Greeks heavily influenced the cuisine, according to Volpi. This brought a more Mediterranean feel to Italian cuisine.


Pizza


Pizza is one of the Italian cooking culture pieces that comes from the multiple influences of the area. Pizza was something that started with the Greeks and became a part of Italian cuisine.
