Make Your Own Trail Mix With M&Ms Nuts & Raisins

M&Ms add extra sweetness to trail mix.

Before you go and pick up another jar of your favorite trail mix, ask yourself why are you going to spend that money when you can easily make your own at home for a fraction of the cost. Trail mix is a tasty, healthy snack for kids and adults alike, containing mostly nuts and other complementary ingredients. This snack is ideal for hikers and those who spend a lot of time outdoors because it's portable and provides essential nutrients. Making trail mix at home allows you to decide exactly what you want to go into it.

Instructions

1. Pour 3 cups of your favorite nuts into a bowl or use a blend of nuts. You can choose peanuts, almonds, walnuts, pecans, cashews or any other nut you prefer. Salted nuts are best for hikers because it helps the body replace the salt lost through perspiration.

2. Add in 2 cups of raisins. Select the more common dark raisins or choose light raisins if you prefer the taste. You can also add 1 cup of each to the bowl.

3. Add in 1 cup of M&M's. While they do not add any nutritional value, they do provide a little extra sweetness and a small indulgence for chocolate lovers. They also add a pop of color to an otherwise brown and beige nut mix.

4. Mix the ingredients together, then pour into a jar or a resealable plastic bag.
