Make Old Fashioned Pancakes

These homestyle pancakes use buttermilk to lend a rich, buttery flavor.

A traditional breakfast food often served with maple syrup, pancakes were once known as hearth cakes and are eaten around the world, varying in shape and consistency from country to country. Fluffy and buttery, old-fashioned traditional American pancakes use buttermilk rather than plain milk to produce a light cake with a savory flavor. Quick and exceptionally easy to make, these pancakes can be baked in minutes and add a hearty, homestyle touch to any breakfast.

Instructions

1. Beat the eggs in a large bowl using a fork or wire whisk. Set the bowl aside.

2. Mix together the milk and baking soda in the smaller bowl. Add this mixture to the eggs and blend well.

3. Combine the remaining dry ingredients in the medium bowl. Add this mixture to the egg mixture along with the oil or butter and blend well.

4. Place the griddle or skillet on a burner over medium heat. Apply nonstick cooking spray to the surface of the pan if needed. Pour small pools of the the batter onto the heated skillet and allow the cakes to bake.

5. Allow the cakes to bake one each side for about two minutes, allowing bubbles to rise through the batter. Refrain from flipping the pancake more than once as this will serve to flatten the pancake, making it dense and heavy.
