Diy Easter Cakes

Pastel candy eggs are ideal for this recipe.

Easter is the perfect occasion to create a pretty themed cake. The weather is warming up and many families gather for the special occasion. You can turn simple store-bought cake mix and frosting into a striking Easter confection that kids and adults alike will enjoy. A fluted tube pan and egg-shaped candies are the key to this dessert. With some careful frosting maneuvers, this simple cake will mimic a bird's nest full of eggs.

Instructions

1. Prepare your cake according to package directions. You may use any flavor cake you wish, although chocolate is used most often. Pour the cake batter into a fluted tube or bundt pan. Bake according to package directions. Remove the cake from the pan and allow it to cool completely.

2. Place the cake on a serving platter. Nestle a narrow glass into the center of the cake, bottom side up, so that the cup can serve as the center of the cake's "nest."

3. Frost the top two-thirds of the cake with white vanilla frosting. To make the frosting look like a bird's nest, swirl the frosting upward into peaks using the back of a metal spoon or butter knife. You don't have to frost the cup, but don't fret if some frosting finds its way onto it.

4. Fill the center of the cake with various candy eggs of various color and size. The cup in the center of the cake will support the candy eggs, bringing them level with the top of the cake.
