Cook Steel Cut Oatmeal With A Rice Steamer

Do not think that you must only use a rice steamer to prepare rice. You can have a hot breakfast waiting for you when you wake up in the morning by putting steel cut oatmeal into your rice steamer the night before. You will not have to worry about the oats burning or boiling over on your stove top, creating a mess. Try this method next time you want to have a hot bowl of steel cut oats for breakfast. Be sure to use regular steel cut oats rather than quick or instant for best results.

Instructions

1. Pour the steel cut oats into the empty rice steamer. Use 1 3/4 standard measuring cups if you do not have the rice measuring cup for the rice steamer.

2. Add the water to the rice steamer and salt to taste.

3. Follow the manufacturer's directions to set the timer on the rice steamer to begin cooking before you wake up. This soaks the oats overnight and automatically turns the machine on at the set time. Let the oats soak overnight to prevent them from boiling over even if you turn the rice steamer on manually without a timer.

4. Use the "Porridge" setting on your rice steamer, either with or without the timer. Press the "Start" button and serve the oatmeal immediately after the rice steamer stops cooking. Halfway through the cooking time, open the steamer and stir the oats.

5. Divide the oatmeal between four or five bowls, and serve with cinnamon, sugar or other toppings of your choice.
