Troubleshoot A Craftsman Submersible Pump Control System

The pump may shut off if it's not located deep enough in the well.

There are many different models of Craftsman submersible pump control systems. Each one has a specific group of features, but many of the basic functions of each pump control are the same. If a problem arises with the pump control system, perform troubleshooting steps to identify what is cuasing the problem. In many cases, the problem can be repaired by the user without the need to contact a technician.

Instructions

1. Lower the pump further into the well. Make sure the pump is at least 5 feet above the bottom of the well. If the water level drops too low while the pump is running, the pump will lose its prime.

2. Pull the pump out of the well. Check the intake screen for clogs. Clean the screen.

3. Inspect the check valve, if equipped. The check valve is located above the bleeder orifice assembly. Make sure the valve is installed correctly. The arrow on the valve body indicates the direction of flow. Reverse the valve if it is backwards.

4. Move the pressure switch within one foot of the tank if the pump starts too frequently. If the pressure switch is too far from the tank, it will not run as efficiently.

5. Check the drop pipe for leaks if the pressure switch is not shutting the pump off. Raise one length of pipe at a time to inspect for leaks.
