Use A Wok On An Electric Stove

If you have an electric stove, you might think that you cannot use a round bottomed wok on top of the flat burner. The truth is that you can use a wok on an electric stove coil, but there are some things you will need to do in order for your cooking to be successful. It's possible to use your wok for all of your favorite Asian dishes on your electric stove.

Instructions

1. Buy a flat bottomed wok rather than a round bottomed one. These do not require a wok ring to be used. If you already have a round bottomed wok, you can adapt it to your electric stove.

2. Look at your wok ring. These are for use with round bottomed woks. It should be a ring with a series of holes in the sides. This is best for an electric stove since it will concentrate all of the heat to the bottom of the wok.

3. Place your wok ring over the coil you intend to use for your wok with the wider portion of the ring pointing up. This will give your round bottomed wok better stability.

4. Replace the wok ring if it is too large or small to closely cover the burner or if it keeps the wok bottom too high from the heat. It should be slightly lifted from the electric coil by about 1/2 to 1 inch.

5. Let your wok preheat on your electric stove for 10 minutes before adding the food or oil for a stir fry. The wok should be letting off smoke.

6. Add cold oil according to your recipe and swirl it around to coat the inside of the pan. Once the oil is hot and sizzling, add the food and stir fry as usual.
