Ms. Tootsie's Cafe, a BYOB establishment which opened in 2000, is one of the most highly rated soul food restaurants on South Street. Their menu features southern classics such as macaroni and cheese, fried chicken and candied yams, as well as desserts including sweet potato cheesecake. The cafe is adjacent to Ms. Tootsie's Lounge, a bar which hosts live entertainment on a weekly basis.

Percy Street Barbecue
Percy Street Barbecue is one of Philadelphia's top barbecue restaurants. Its signature dish is the slowly smoked brisket, but the menu also includes a variety of other barbecue dishes including spare ribs, sausage, pork belly and chicken. The restaurant offers a wide selection of side dishes, including collard greens and green bean casserole, as well as some surprises such as vegan chili. Percy Street also serves beer and cocktails. The restaurant is closed on Mondays, and open for brunch and lunch on the weekends.

Jamaican Jerk Hut
The Jamaican Jerk Hut is a casual BYOB with outdoor and indoor seating, specializing in Caribbean food. In the traditional style of "jerk" cooking, all their meat is spiced and cooked over an open fire. In addition to their specialty, a jerk chicken platter served with coconut rice and beans, the restaurant offers several vegan and vegetarian specialties, and seafood dishes. To drink, a variety of fresh juice drinks are available. The Jamaican Jerk Hut can be seen in the Cameron Diaz movie "In Her Shoes."
