Incorporate Latin cuisine into your salsa party.
Latino salsa parties are known for their vibrant sounds, as well as their delicious eats. Hot and spicy, savory dishes that are authentic to Latin culture are often served. Many of these dishes are not only revered for being tasty, but healthy.
Salsa and Chips
Paired with tortilla chips, salsa is a popular, easy-to-make Latino food well-suited for a salsa party menu. Salsa can be created in many variations, including pico de gallo, salsa verde, guacamole and salsa roja.
Salsa roja is prepared using garlic, onions, tomatillos, peppers or dried chilies and cilantro. Guacamole is created using red onions, chiles, cilantro, lemon or lime juice, avocados, tomatoes and salt and pepper.
Empanadas
Empanadas are created using pastry shells, and filled with a variety of foods including chicken, seafood, fish, beef, assorted vegetables and cheese. Prepare empanadas with pie crust to save time, chop the ingredients for the filling and season with salt and pepper. Cut the pie crusts into circles to make it easier to fold and tuck the ingredients inside. If you plan to include meat or seafood, cook it ahead of time. Bake the empanadas for 15 minutes at 400 degrees F. For a dessert option, fill empanadas with fruit.
Sweet Corn Fritters
Sweet corn fritters are a tasty, crispy, fried treat that can be served as an appetizer at your Latino salsa party. Made with corn, flour, sugar, eggs, milk and baking powder, they can easily be paired with a variety of party foods. Corn fritters can be topped with a variety of condiments, such as sour cream, mango, pineapple, salsa and guacamole.
Fruit Salsa
Serve guests dessert made with fresh fruits, including mango, kiwi and papaya. Add a diverse flavor to this mixture by including jalapeno peppers, red onions, cilantro and lime juice. Dice each ingredient into small cubes and serve with tortilla chips or alone. Present this dish to guests in small, glass bowls or glasses, with a lemon or lime garnish on the side.
Drinks
Offer guests Latin drinks such as margaritas and sangria. Sangria can be made with red, rose or white wine and is chock-full of fruits such as oranges, peaches, pineapples and various berries. This mixture is often combined with sugar or honey to make the flavor more intense.
Margaritas, made with tequila, triple sec and lime juice, can be prepared frozen or on ice. Serve the drinks in a margarita glass with salt around the rim and a lime garnish.
